 and remember that 0 have no value

 let p=1, q=1

 x^{2}  + (1) x -  \frac{1}{2}  (1) (1) = (1) x

 x^{2}  -  \frac{1}{2}  = 0

then you use this to substitude in the  b^{2}  - 4ac formula
then you will count out an answer which is >0
and this has proven that the quadratic equation has roots, which are 2 roots
