A 1500 kg car is travelling at a speed of 12 ms-1 when the driver applies the brakes. If the braking force remains constant at 5400 N, find the distance travelled by the car before it comes to a stop. Please show me the steps.. thanks .

You need to find the deceleration to know the distance travelled. You know the force, so you can use:

F = ma
5400 = (1500)(a)
a = 3.6 m/s2

Now you want to find distance, s. You also know
u (initial speed) = 12m/s
v (final speed) = 0m/s
a = - 3.6m/s2

So you can use this formula!
v² = u² +2as
0² = 12² + 2(-3.6)(s)
0 = 144 - 7.2s

Just rearrange to find s! :)
