Fogg is at the exclusive Reform Club playing a card game of bridges when he become involved in a debate whether it is possible to travel around the world in 80 days. He places a wager of £20 000 against his friend, Andrew Stuart's weager of £4 000 as he is confident that he can travel around the world in 80 days and arrive at the Reform Club at 8.45 p.m. on Saturday, 21 December. Fogg and Passepartout encounter many adventures on their journey. Detective Fix, who believes that Fogg is involved in a bank robbery, is also hot on their trail. Fogg and his friends arrive in Liverpool on time, but he is arrested by Detective Fix on the change of robbing the Bank of England. Fogg finally wins the wager when he arrives at the Reform Club seconds before the stipulated time. Two days later, he marries Aouda, a rich merchant's daughter whom they rescued when they were in India.
