Along the way, Fogg and Passepartout experience adventures and obstacles that delay their journey. When they are in India, they run into a rich merchant's daughter with some bandits. They realise she has been kidnapped. Fogg then rescues her even though it could delay their journey. Later, while they are travelling to New York on a train, Passepartout is kidnapped by the outlaws. Fogg takes the time to rescue Passepartout. Despite all the delays and obstacles, Fogg and his companions manage to reach London in time and win the bet. If Fogg had not been determined and had not persevered, he would not have won the bet or married Aouda.
