The persona compares two images of her adoptive grandmother-one see in the photograph when the persona was three years old and another image of her grandmother as the lady became older and finally passed away. The persona seems to say that the earlier image of her grandmother is the one that will live on. This poem resonates with the memories of many young people who have lost their beloved grandparents. It seems to tell us the memories of the people we love will live on.

this is just a brief one. hope it helps

The persona talks about grandmother as 'The living photograph'. A photograph of her at the age of 3 with her grandmother makes her feel that Grandmother is still there for her. Grandmother when young was tall and straight-back. She was dressed very neatly in a white shirt and pleated skirt. She was not afraid of dying. The persona sat by her bedside and held her hand as her grandmother drew her last breath and went to the awful, unknown and unthinkable place. The persona recalls that her grandmother became small as she grew older. Her back became round and hunched. But, to the persona, her grandmother is still very much alive as she looks at the photograph of herself and grandmother.
