If you’ve ever faced the daunting task of making a dessert for a social event, you know how hard it can be to decide what to make. You don’t want to waste a whole bunch of time slaving away in the kitchen just to create something that isn’t well received. You might think of making brownies or cookies, or perhaps a sheet cake or a pie. However, none of those options have all the qualifications necessary to be that dynamite dessert that will make everyone love you forever. The only dessert that does hit all these qualifications is cupcakes. Cupcakes are the greatest dessert because of their endless flavor combinations, inherent likeability, and overall ease of preparation and serving.
Think about it, what exactly makes a good dessert? First and foremost, it is essential that it tastes absolutely amazing. Taste is by far the most important criteria. However in order for people to want to put it in their mouths and taste in the first place, the dessert must be approachable and likeable. People like familiarity when it comes to their desserts, so you can’t try and spring something totally new and foreign on them. Also, when bringing a dessert to a social setting like a party or the workplace, it is extremely helpful if the dessert isn’t something tricky to make. You don’t want to spend hours and hours slaving away in the kitchen for just one event. And finally, you want a dessert that doesn’t need dozens of utensils and tools to transport, serve, and eat. The easier it is to take it from kitchen to party to guest’s mouth, the better. All of these categories are key in deciding what makes a good or bad dessert.
Cupcakes take the cake (pun intended) when it comes to being the greatest dessert, because they indisputably fit all these categories. Imagine you’ve just spent an hour in the kitchen baking a dozen cupcakes, and you now have a finished cupcake sitting in front of you. Right off the bat, its adorable appearance makes you proud and you can’t believe it only took ten seconds to frost it. You can’t wait to rip off that wrapper and take a bite, because suddenly you’re thinking of the cupcakes your mom made for you when you were little. When you finally take a bite, you are overwhelmed by the combination of flavors and textures. Moist, rich dark chocolate cake surrounding a silky smooth caramel filling (with a hint of sea salt to balance the sweetness), all topped off with a generous swirl of milk chocolate ganache frosting. Next thing you know you’ve devoured the whole thing; it was so delicious and so easy to eat. Again, that cupcake is an example of the perfect dessert. It was undeniably delicious, it satisfied your craving for a familiar treat, and it was easy to make and eat.
