Food samples that contain reducing sugar that are heated with Benedict's Solution will turn the solution into Brick Red color. Food samples that doesn't contain reducing sugar that are heated with Benedict's solution will shows no change to the color of the solution that is, blue.
this is due to the copper(II) sulphate that is dissolved in the Benedict's solution. when a reducing sugar is heated with Benedict solution, the reducing sugar reduce copper 2 sulfate to copper 1 oxide copper 1 oxide is brick red in color and insoluble thus a big red precipitate is formed.
