The Living Photograph Poem (Form4)

My small grandmother is tall there,
straight-back, white broderie anglaise shirt,
pleated skirt, flat shoes,grey bun,
a kind, old smile round her eyes,
Her big hand holds mine,
white hand in black hand,
Her sharp blue eyes look her own death in the eye.

1. In stanza 1, which words mean 'open embroidery on white linen'?
2. Describe the grandmother's skirt and shoes.
3. Why do you think the grandmother forgot to boil the soup?
4. look her own death in the eyes
Where do you think the persona was when the grandmother passed away?
Provide a reason for your answer

1. white broderie anglaise
2. The grandmother had a pleated skirt and flat shoes
3. She was forgetful, either from illness or old age
3. The persona was with the grandmother when she passed away. Because he/she saw how bravely the grandmother fought death.
