During elastic collision:
Two objects collide and move apart after a collision. Both objects move in different velocities after a collision.
Formula:

where =mass, =initial velocity and =final velocity.
∴ Momentum is conserved. Total energy is conserved. Kinetic energy is conserved.
During inelastic collision:
Two objects combine and stop, or move together with a common velocity after a collision.
Formula:

where =mass, =initial velocity and =final velocity.
∴ Momentum is conserved. Total energy is conserved. Kinetic energy is not conserved. (The total kinetic energy after the collision is less than the total kinetic energy before the collision.  )
